Frequently Asked Questions
How often is river and conditions data updated?
Live river gauge data is pulled directly from USGS and refreshes every time you load the app. Trail conditions are updated periodically from NPS and forest service sources.
How do I get directions to a trailhead or fishing spot?
Directions require High Country Outdoors Pro. Upgrade in the Settings tab, then tap "Get Directions" on any trail, river, waterfall, or fishing spot detail page.
How do I sort trails and fishing spots by distance?
Near Me sorting is a Pro feature. Enable location access in your iPhone Settings, then select "Near Me" from the sort options at the top of any list.
How do I restore my Pro purchase on a new device?
Go to Settings → Restore Purchases. Make sure you're signed into the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.
Why is a trail or fishing spot missing?
We cover a large area across Eastern TN, Western NC, and SW VA but may not have every location yet. Email us the name and we'll look into adding it.
How do I enable trail alerts and notifications?
Trail alerts are a Pro feature. Once upgraded, go to any trail detail page and tap "Set Alert" to receive push notifications for closures and condition changes.
The river gauge data looks wrong — what should I do?
River data comes directly from USGS gauges. If a gauge is offline or reporting incorrectly, it's typically a USGS outage. Email us and we'll flag it.
Is my location data shared?
No. Location is used only on your device to sort nearby results and fetch trailhead weather. It is never transmitted to our servers. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
